2014 Trek 3500 Disc: Bike to Work, or On The Trails

Excellent "Trail Ready" Bike From Trek: The 2014 3500 Disc

When it comes to functionality, Trek knows both what you want and what you need. What you need is a bike that will take you back and forth from work, allow you to carry some groceries home from the market, and to help you stay in shape.

What you want is a mean-looking, trail-ready, durable machine with quality components and a nice paint job. Right? That's exactly what you'll find in the 2014 Trek 3500 Disc.

The frame is made of Trek's Alpha Silver aluminum, which is lightweight and features smooth-welds at the joints. The front fork is an SR Suntour M-3030 w/ coil spring, and 75mm of travel. This little bit of suspension will help take you over some otherwise undesirable patches of road and trail without killing your hands.

The all-Shimano drivetrain is a plus, allowing you to easily use the Altus EZ-Fire 51 7-Speed shifters to send the chain through the Shimano Tourney Front and Rear (TX35) Derailleurs, on a Shimano M131 48/38/28 Crank and over the SRAM PG-730 12-32 cassette. If for some awful reason you have to slow down on your ride, you can do so using the HL 280 mechanical disc brakes (Shimano Altus levers). The 3500 Disc is outfitted with Bontrager's standard (which is a pretty high standard!) Saddle, Handlebar, and grips — from it's SSR family of products.

We can only talk about this bike so much — we'd love to let you take one on a test ride! Come by the store and see if this is the bike for you. If not, we've got a large selection of bikes for you to choose from. We look forward to seeing you soon at The Bike Zone.

2014 Felt Bikes Are Coming Out, But Don't Forget About Their Incredible 2013 Models Like the 2013 Felt Compulsion

Yes, the 2014 bikes are still great. Check out our previous post on one of the new lines: Here.

The Compulsion is Felt's do-it-all trail machine. It has patented Equilink suspension and adjustable 150mm or 160mm of fully active travel. That means you can get up the hill faster, yet also have a lot of fun on even the most technical descents. With Equilink, the Compulsion produces the efficiency and as compliant pedaling as a true trail bike.

The weight of all the models of the Compulsion was reduced to be more able on the trail. Felt also changed the head angles of this years bike to improve the handling. For 2013, Felt used all new links and hardware to beef up the stiffness and strength of this trail bike.

Shimano Handles the entire drivetrain, ensuring quality and compatibility through the whole bike. It's shifters, front and rear derailleur, crankset, brakes and wheelset are all Shimano Deore XT.

Having parts that are all made from the same manufacturer and are the same model make this bike unbeatable when it comes to compatibility.

You should come to The Bike Zone to check out this awesome bike as well as all the other  great products we have.

THE BIKE ZONE is located at 2100 Ridge Rd. W., Rochester, NY.

2014 Trek Domane 6.9 in Men's Fitness Top Ten Road Bikes For Serious Cyclists

Mens Fitness Magazine listed the 2014 Trek Domane 6.9 as one of it's top 10 Serious Cyclist Road Bikes.

Here's what the magazine had to say about the bike:

"Road bikes designed with race geometry are great for competition, but they’re typically uncomfortable on longer rides. No need to suffer, or to lose your edge—Trek’s Domane 6.9 sports an IsoSpeed decoupler that isolates the seat tube from the rest of the frameset for a more comfortable riding position that doesn’t compromise power transfer to the road. And it’s smooth and stable enough to power comfortably over centuries-old European cobbles, or your nearest potholed country road. "

The 2014 Trek Domane is claimed by Trek to be the World's best endurance bike.

Here are just a few of the reasons that the 2014 Domane 6.9 takes the cake.

Isospeed DeCoupler: The IsoSpeed decoupler isolates the seat tube from the rest of the frameset, doubling compliance and smoothness with zero performance drawbacks
600 Series OCLV: Over two decades ago, Trek engineers developed Optimum Compaction, Low Void carbon manufacturing process, enabling them to produce carbon bikes with consistency and quality previously thought impossible. To this day, Trek OCLV carbon frames are the best, most consistent you can buy.

Endurance Fit: As befits Domane, the world's most advanced endurance racing bike, we've developed the world's most comfortable racing geometry. Still racy, but with a slightly higher head tube. You're more balanced over the bike for stability, and your back stays more comfortable through the entire ride.

IsoSpeed Fork: It's a one-two punch: generous ride-tuned sweep and shape increases compliance for a smoother ride, and unique dropout placement optimized the wheelbase.

Power Transfer Construction: Get more out of every pedal stroke with Power Transfer Construction. This Trek innovation applies more of your pedaling power to the road by optimizing the head tube/down tube/bottom bracket/rear wheel connection.

StepJoint Technology: After molding each specific piece for a frame, Trek joins the "lugs" into a complete frame using StepJoint Technology, or proprietary method of bonding two carbon structures together perfectly, with no overlap, no excess carbon, and consistent tube wall thickness throughout.

Performance Cable Routing:  Trek's performance cable routing is highly engineered for unshakable precision and the real-world performance that comes from better compatibility with current drivetrains. Optimal routing through the frame provides flawless shifting, better braking, sleeker aerodynamics, and easier assembly and maintenance.

BB90: BB90 is the widest bottom bracket available on a road bike. This Trek-exclusive carbon BB makes the frame lighter, stiffer, and quicker to accelerate. BB90 also eliminates the need for extra inserts and parts in the bottom bracket/frame junction. Fewer parts mean a lighter frame — and a lighter frame means a faster ride.

Bontrager RXL IsoZone bar: Turns cobbles into concrete. Vibration from rough roads can cause numbness, fatigue, even loss of control. Trek's exclusive solution: integrated IsoZone handlebar pads that reduce vibration displacement by 20% while keeping the same ergonomic profile. You get comfort and confident control, with less additional weight than add on solutions like gel padding or double wrapped tape.

2014 Trek Crockett: NEW CX Race Bike

Trek Introduces Crockett, the CX Race Rocket

Crockett is for racing. Developed with direct input from Katie Freakin Compton, the Crockett is all about earning your cowbells and handups all while crossing the line first. Already raced to an overall World Cup Championship under KFC, the Crockett will be offered in aluminum only along side of the carbon Cronus CX which returns for 2014 in two models.

Available now, the Crockett might just show up on some cross courses near you this Fall.

Since the Crockett is race bred, there is still the disc or canti debate to contend with – though Crockett will be available in both so you can take your pick. The frames do appear to be one or the other though, so you won’t be able to change your mind down the road.

Each frame is constructed from Trek’s 200 series Alpha Aluminum which is their premium alloy, heavily shaped into the smooth lines of the Crockett. The geometry was chosen based on Katie’s input for race specific handling.

The frame features a built in 3S chainkeeper to prevent derailments in the worst conditions, and post mount disc brakes on both front and rear for the non canti frame. The frame also includes improved internal cable routing to keep things operating smoother, longer in cross conditions.
At the front of the bike is Trek’s IsoSpeed full carbon fork borrowed from the Domane and tuned for CX, smoothing the ride while still remaining laterally stiff.

Complete bikes will be offered in the Crockett 9 Canti shown above, the Crockett 7 Canti and Disc, and the Crockett 5 Canti and Disc, as well as framesets for both Canti and Disc models.

[Photos & Review] 2014 Felt Virtue Nine Carbon and Aluminum Mountain Bikes

Felt Releases 2014 Virtue Nine Line-Up. 2 Carbon Models and 3 Aluminum

While most are aware of Felt's proclivity towards high-end road and triathlon bikes, but they also have an extensive line of short to mid travel mountain bikes. The same quality frame design and construction exist in this realm of Felt's kingdom - and these new 2014 models are showing that Felt is keeping up with the MTB crowd as well.

The Felt Virtue Nine platform has been gifted 29in wheels and boasts 130mm of rear suspension by way of Felt's proprietary Equilink suspension system. The bikes come with 140mm travel forks (except the Virtue Nine 60 — 130mm Suntour).

RockShox delivers Felt suspension needs throughout the Virtue line-up. The drivetrain for the flagship Virtue Nine 1 is SRAM's X0 11-speed with a 30 tooth chainring. Post style disc brakes are a feature of the Virtue Nine model and eliminates an additional bracket or adapter for 160mm brake rotors. Avid X0 Trail brakes with 180mm rotors make sure you can stop quickly and confidently.

Even the seatpost is awesome, a Reverb Stealth allows for easy seat height adjustment on the fly.

Constructed from UHC Advanced carbon fiber, the Nine 1 tips the scales at five pounds, including the shock. In addition to the Nine 1, Felt also offers a carbon Nine 3. The Virtue Nine also has three aluminum offerings (Nine 20, Nine 50, Nine 60).
